Tempered glass has a huge number of benefits and is used in many different ways. By the time you’re done reading this, you’ll know all about them.

Read on if you would like to know more about tempered glass and how it can help you!

Basic Meaning of Tempered Glass

When we say tempered glass, we’re referring to glass that has been treated to make it stronger. The treatment involves the use of heat or chemicals to toughen the glass.

After being heated or applying the chemicals, the resulting glass becomes denser and heat resistant. This gives it more potential for use in many different industries.

Let’s take a look at exactly what tempered glass has over normal glass:

Benefits of Tempered Glass

#1 – Safety

Perhaps one of the main benefits of tempered glass is how much safer it is than other types of glass. When tempered glass breaks, it doesn’t shatter into millions of tiny, sharp shards.

Tempered glass will naturally break into circular, blunt pieces of glass in the event that it breaks apart. Obviously, blunt pieces of glass are far less dangerous than jagged, sharp pieces.

You should still avoid stepping on the glass, in case a piece is able to pierce your foot. However, the chances of that happening are far lower than with typical glass types.

#2 – Easy Clean-Up

The fact that tempered glass breaks into reasonably harmless, circular shards also makes it much easier to clean up. When you clean up shattered tempered glass, you can sweep the shards up quite safely.

With normal glass, you would need to pick each shard up, one by one, and carefully store it so as not to cut yourself. Tempered glass is easy enough to sweep up without much risk if any at all.

Once you’ve swept up the largest pieces, you can even use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of the remaining smaller pieces. Trust me, cleaning up this way is much nicer!

#3 – Durability

As I already mentioned, tempered glass is much stronger than typical glass. The heating or chemical process used on it causes the glass to become quite dense.

The increased density of the tempered glass gives it a strong ability to endure both heat and strong impacts. Situations, where ordinary glass would shatter, are no match for the strength of tempered glass!

Don't use tempered glass on wood stoves, coal stoves, gas stoves or pellet stoves.

The Windshield of Your Car – Tempered glass is highly valued for use on windshields. The fact that tempered glass doesn’t break into jagged shards that could cut your face. The tempered glass will stop your windshield from breaking easily. In the event that it does break, the glass is unlikely to injure you.
