STOVE BRIGHT® GAS VENT PIPE PAINT: Comprehensive Guide for Application and Maintenance

Heat Resistant up to 250°F/121°C with a Gloss Finish

Important Note: DO NOT use on Wood Stove, Pellet Stove, or Gas Stove surfaces. For use ONLY on vent pipes for gas units or metal not exceeding 250°F.

Surface Preparation:
To achieve optimal results, thorough surface preparation is essential. STOVE BRIGHT Gas Vent Pipe Paint is designed for direct application on properly prepared metal surfaces without the need for a primer. Follow these steps for effective surface preparation:

For Bare Sheet Metal or Stainless Substrates:

  • Remove all rust, peeling, or chipping paint using sandpaper, wire brush, wire wheel, or sandblasting.
  • Lightly scuff the surface with a plastic painter's Scotch-Brite pad or fine grit (180-220) sandpaper to provide a coating profile.
  • Wipe off sanding residue and contaminants with a clean white cloth and Stove Bright Paint Prep, acetone, or lacquer thinner.

For Bare Galvanized Substrates:

  • Conduct an 'acid etch' using a one-to-one solution of white vinegar and water.
  • Wipe the solution on the metal with a clean white cloth, let it dry, rinse with warm water, and allow the metal to dry completely.

Painting Over Existing Coating:

  • Test compatibility by scuffing a small area with 180-220 grit sandpaper.
  • Wipe down with Stove Bright Paint Prep, acetone, or lacquer thinner.
  • Shake the aerosol can for 2 minutes, apply a thin coat, and wait up to 10 minutes for a reaction.
  • If no reaction occurs, proceed with additional coats. Incompatibility requires removing the existing coating down to bare metal.

Application and Drying Time:

  • Follow these guidelines for the application and drying of STOVE BRIGHT Gas Vent Pipe Paint:
  • Ensure an air temperature between 65°-80°F with low humidity, and a surface temperature not exceeding 90°F during application.
  • Vigorously shake the aerosol can for at least one minute to mix the product.
  • Test spray on cardboard to confirm proper spray.
  • Hold the aerosol can 12-15" away and apply a light tack coat. Let it rest for 2 minutes.
  • The next coat should be a flow coat for full coverage.
  • Allow 24 hours for touch-ups, and the paint dries in approximately 3 hours to touch, air curing in 2 days.

Ensure your painting area has adequate ventilation, wear chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection, and refer to caution labels on products before use. Make your gas vent pipes stand out with the durability and aesthetic appeal of STOVE BRIGHT Gas Vent Pipe Paint.
