Stove Bright User Guide: Ensuring Optimal High-Temperature Paint Application

When it comes to using high-temperature paints, following specific guidelines is essential due to the elevated temperatures involved. This user guide provides comprehensive instructions for the proper application of Stove Bright High Temperature Paint, designed to help you avoid common issues.

1. Compatibility Check:

  • Most stoves in the U.S. and Canada can be painted with Stove Bright® without issues.
  • Ensure the compatibility of your stove's original paint formulation with Stove Bright®. Contact your stove manufacturer to determine the paint brand used .

2. Surface Preparation:

  • Effective surface preparation is crucial. Paint adhesion depends on the surface's condition.
  • Remove rust completely by sandblasting, sanding, or grinding.
  • For surfaces with Stove Bright or compatible paint, scuff it with 180 Grit Sand Paper or a medium coarse plastic paint pad.
  • Remove any contaminants such as oil, grease, or dirt with effective solvents (e.g., Lacquer Thinner, Toluene, or Acetone).
  • For light dirt and dust, use Stove Bright® Paint Prep in aerosol.
  • Do not use products like Formula 409 or tack cloth as they can inhibit adhesion.

3. Troubleshooting Surface Preparation:

  • Incomplete rust removal can lead to rust reappearing after painting.
  • If paint peels off in patches, it indicates issues with surface preparation; remove paint, prepare, and repaint.

4. Application:

  • Shaking the can for 2 minutes ensures uniform paint mixture.
  • Spray from a distance of 12-15 inches with proper ventilation and protective gear.
  • Apply two or three light coats instead of one heavy coat.
  • Allow drying between coats (about 15 minutes for each).
  • Follow specific guidelines for wood, pellet, or gas-burning stoves.

5. Troubleshooting Application:

  • Paint peeling off indicates excessive paint application; remove, prepare, and repaint.
  • Textured or gritty finish results from dry spray; sand off gritty areas, prepare, and repaint.

6. Curing:

  • Wait 4 hours before igniting a fire in the stove.
  • Gradually build the fire to high temperatures, following specific guidelines for wood, pellet, or gas-burning stoves.
  • Ventilate the room during high-temperature burning phases to minimize smoke and odor.

7. Troubleshooting Curing:

  • Build the fire slowly to prevent paint shock.
  • Avoid touching the surface during curing to prevent issues.

8. Preventing Clogged Aerosol Tips:

  • Shake the can well and ensure proper room temperature.
  • Regularly invert the can and spray until clear propellant comes out after each use.
  • Store the can in a controlled temperature between 50°F and 90°F.
  • Shake the can vigorously for 2 minutes before each use.
